I remember when I got my first PC that was all mine. It was a Compaq Presario 5510 with an AMD K6-2 350Mhz. Back then there were 3D games you couldn't play without 3D acceleration, like Soldier of Fortune.
I remember my first 3D card was a hand-me-down Voodoo 2 wish required a cable that ran from the back of the Voodoo 2 card and plugged into the VGA output on your standard VGA card.
