There's a lot of content on the landing page that all vies for my attention, but none of it really explains what it is I'm looking at or what I'm supposed to do with it.

Also, I think each rectangle is meant to be a separate entry, separated by date, but it's impossible to tell.

It could use some design and usability attention, yes.
My first thought was "what am I looking at?"

On top of that, after about 10 seconds of looking at the page, images popped in and moved things... And then after scrolling that happened again, but I'm pretty sure things moved into different columns, making it even worse.
I think it's just the slow load time, maybe being hugged to death.
I found this after a little bit of scrolling. It was not obvious at first, but this is a self-hosted personal social CMS of some kind......

> Socialhome is best described as a #federated personal profile with social networking functionality. Users can create rich content using #Markdown. All content can be pinned to the user profile and all content will federate to contacts in the federated social web. Federation happens using the #ActivityPub and #Diaspora protocols.

"Socialhome allows you to build a rich profile that federates across the federated social web. Your content will be available to millions of users that you can also follow and interact with their content."

I think this is the product pitch.

For some reason this feels like MySpace =D. I'm excited about the project, it just needs a better "About" page. Thanks for sharing. Django/Python in the House!!!
how does a product like this get 27 upvotes and only confused people in the comments?
Shameless plug (sorry guys), I've also been doing my fair share of work for "socializing" the syndicated web: https://www.kalaksi.com - a social network built on top of rss
I went through the documentation and tried to spin up a Socialhome instance of my own. I couldn’t quite get it working with either the Ansible playbook method or the docker container method (I’ve gotten better with those things nowadays, but the docs weren’t too helpful).

I contacted the project’s creator and tried to hire him to help me make an instance. He said he wasn’t planning on putting a ton of energy into this project going forward, which I was disappointed to hear since it’s so cool.

My own personal Socialhome page has been going strong for about a year, though it is basically just a place to host my portfolio of 3D work and sculptures. I don’t use the social feed too much. The Fediverse is a lot less mature than I’d like, but I’m rooting for it.
