I think the authors problem isn't so much his ethnicity (who really cares?) it's his attitudes to women, 'fag hags'.
He comes across as an extremely unpleasant individual, it's always easier to blame external factors instead of looking inside and thinking "maybe I can improve myself and not openly demean women among other things"
