Ask HN: How do people use social networks to find jobs out of school?

I am gathering information about how social networks can help new graduates to find job in 2021. I have been in the industry for a while and it does not appear that social networks played any tangible role in my employment, including the ones that are geared toward professionals. So the question I have is if anyone has any success story using LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and similar platforms to find a job out of grad school?

I took a class with a guy who was a subpar student, and he spent most of the lectures on LinkedIn and reached out to anyone and everyone. He had no shame and "fear of rejection" when it came to cold messaging.

A few weeks to a month after the class ended, he got a job and was the first in our class to get one. It was for a Sales Engineer position, rather software engineering (which the rest of us were gearing up for), but based on his interests it seemed way more up his alley.
