Ask HN: No longer need Mac antivirus mandated by client. Do I need it anyway?

I have had Bitdefender for three years after my client contracts constantly mandated that I run antivirus on my machine. I don't have those contracts anymore and Bitdefender is up for renewal.

Do I really need it anyway?

MacOS Catalina, BTW, blocks ransomware anyway, right?

XProtect is antivirus or malware detection, right?

It's scanning applications on boot, right?
