Nano network spam attack, over 1M transactions in 24 hours (reddit.com)

Is there a financial benefit to doing this? What does the spammer gain?

Each transaction takes a small PoW value. I wonder what the total cost is to the spammer (in terms of how much they could have made with this hashrate mining a different coin)

This is why bitcoin has a market cap of $1trillion and nano has barely anything.
