Here we are in countries other than the US, I states other than California, maybe just not living in San Francisco reading hacker news, pretending it's relevant.
The story says that SFTMA closed the access road to Twin Peaks because of the COVID lockdown, and that has triggered an increase in crime, mainly car break ins. What's the connection, why has closing the road increased crime? Are there now more parked cars along the road that are targets?
Your camera can be replaced. Black lives cannot. It was probably insured anyway.
After everything in 2020 we're seriously going to advocate stronger police action in the area because some rich white people experienced a minor inconvenience?

[ 2.5 ms ] story [ 41.9 ms ] threadWhat would you personally need to see to make that clear? Like, write it down, what is the line in the sand for you, is there one?
Why is local news on the HN front page?
How does a road closure result in armed robbery?
The Waco Twin Peaks incident was much worse, is this connected to that?
(and a lot of those who are not local to SF have some relation to the city — used to live there (me), visit frequently, have coworkers in SF, etc).
- Was it just a matter of grabbing some expensive-looking electronic device to fence?
- Do these robbers actually have the connections to be able to fence that camera to someone who knows how to use it?
- Do they themselves know how to use it (perhaps having stolen other AV equipment) and have some plan for it?
- Was it an attempt to silence coverage of their crimes?
People do dumb shit all the time just so they can brag about the dumb shit they did.
The equipment was later found. The article didn't provide details, but presumably the assailants tossed it.
Nope, it's a silicon valley / SF bubble.

How much time are you willing to be robbed of before you say enough?
i'm not sure if at-gunpoint armed robbery registers as a 'minor inconvenience' to anyone, regardless of skin color.
