I'd love to own some, but the price is a little too volatile right now and it's very difficult to exchange USD and BTC due to lack of proper PayPal/debit card support at most exchanges.
I just posted on a MtGox/Mastercard deal in the works:
MagicalTux: "we are finishing the contract part, and working on the card design. Next we'll need approval from mastercard to issue mastercards with a huge bitcoin logo"
I made a tiny $10 'investment' back at parity with the USD. Lost a $5 best to a friend and agreed to pay him 4 BTC instead. Today I was able to tell him that it had appreciated to $115. He is pleased.
hype is made by those who hold existing bitcoins. It increases the value of a bitcoin, meaning that those who hype it seek to benefit the most. It is therefore a a type of con and does not give me any trust in the project.
I mined 100 bitcoins last year after reading a HN article. Now the mining difficulty requires a dedicated mining rig, but I would rather simply purchase more and day-trade at Mt Gox.
