I don't think that this is some charity from Google. It won't stop them from inserting themselves in the middle of everything. But it might make a bit harder for competitors.
Not that those ad space is filled only with good intentions. But monopolize it isn't good either. I'm already pissed when I click some news result and it's AMPed + google asking if I want them to manage my login / subscription / anything like that.
Having just one middleman for everything is too much power.
