Whatever Happened to Google Fiber? (cnet.com)

I'm still using it. It's pretty great. Still available for sign ups if it's already installed. Not sure about new construction.

The purpose of the Google Fiber push was to encourage other providers to improve their network performance in order to enhance the experience when using core Google services i.e. video streaming.

Google fiber became available in my neighborhood (Austin Texas) in January this year. I signed up immediately and the installation occurred a week later.
