Apparently you can buy transparent OLED displays now, which look like plain piece of glass when off.
This project takes 10 of such displays and stacks them together in one block. The result is tiny (under 1" longest dimension) volumetric display with resolution 128 x 56 x 10.
Pretty neat for UI building, but don't expect any sort of rotating 3D models.
