Ask HN: How is software engineering / tech industry in Latin America?

I lived in Ecuador for a couple years as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

While in Ecuador I didn’t see many programmers, but now I hear more and more about the tech scene in places like Mexico and Colombia. How is your experience as a SWE / tech worker in Latin America?

I feel like it would be very nice if salaries in Latin America and other places would come up to the level of the US. With more remote work options it seems like that could happen. Of course the inverse could also happen where US salaries go down towards other places but I hope not.
