I have nothing significant to add but a link to this being posted in 2013 that had a funny comment.

This is perhaps the single most potent piece of evidence that HN's glory days are all in the past. Oh well, it was a good run.

hmmm... that person seemed to be a frequent commenter until May 1, 2019.

I hope that he/she is alright, and that they simply succumbed to fatigue from the inevitable ennui and despair

I read it as the not valid cookery section, but it seems it's for the infirmed.

"To make Toast Sandwiches toast a very thin slice of bread and put it between two thin slices of bread, spread with butter and a very little marmite"

Do you butter both sides?

I did when I tried it out of curiousity, surprisingly alright with a bit of salt, no marmite for me though.
looks like someone screwed up a club sandwich
Wow, the best part to me is:

In November 2011, the toast sandwich was recreated by the Royal Society of Chemistry in a tasting almost 150 years (...) They named it "the country's most economical lunch", offering £200 to whoever could create a cheaper meal. Due to an overabundance of submissions, the offer was closed 7 days later and the £200 given to a randomly selected entrant.
