stereo separation is incredibly important to me (and i’m sure to others) so the homepod was a non starter. this seems like such a obvious fck up on the part of apple. it’s like no music lovers have a say there anymore. also RIP apple airport, the best airplay target ever made. seems like apple is run by MBAs and former IBMers now.
you could always pair 2 HomePods for a stereo experience
Apple lost the sense of taste a while ago.
You can pair two HomePods to play stereo sound, although you’re right it wasn’t an option from the get-go.
I worked for the Apple Store back in the raging iPod days. I was there for iPod Hi-Fi. That was hands down the best audio I ever heard. You could crank that volume to max and the device wouldn’t rattle or sound overblown. It literally was the most amazing sound I ever heard from a speaker. Sadly couldn’t afford one.

A few years ago I found a brand new in box Hi-Fi on eBay and snapped it up for a few hundred. I was able to add a wireless airplay adapter using a pi and can push audio to it. Still amazing sound after ten years.

I think this confirms that these speakers weren’t being used to play much music.
Apple should stop pretending and buy Sonos.
I’ve yet to find anything that comes close to the sound profile of a pair of Homepods linked in stereo.

On the upside, Given they’re on OS 14.4 and support airplay 2, I should get a decade more out of them.

Bummer! I got a pile of Minis and love them, but there are a few places in the house where a bigger, better speaker would help. I was waiting for a full-size HomePod 2 to come out...
