I really like this model.

Apps that don’t need cloud service yet cease to function and lock access to my own data if a subscription expires have really turned me off of subscriptions.

Letting users keep what they have paid for up to that point after subscription lapse, and making it easy to pay for access to the newer features is a great way to support developers while not ripping off consumers.

The base app getting updated on ongoing basis is better for consumer and doesn’t require maintaining separate codebases for the developer for bug/security/device support fixes.

Nice work and well thought out. Would love to see this approach spread.

I used to hate subscriptions but now that I'm thinking about how to monetize the thing I'm building, I completely understand them.

But I really appreciate this developer sharing their experience here.

I would love a dataset that showed how indie developers who work on their consumer iOS apps full time are monetizing them.
