Interesting viewpoint by Oracle on how anti-competitive Google's plans are. Note on the other hand that Oracle is in the third-party data business as well so they aren't exactly a neutral bystander.

Curious to see what the regulators in EU / US / UK are going to do with this. It feels much worse than what Microsoft did in their antitrust case in the 90s.

From a pragmatic point of view, it is certainly an improvement to have "only Google" track you, over "Google and everyone else". As such, it is a net benefit.

Of course one would like Google and others to simply support technological foundations that make it impossible to track individuals, but it's still strictly better than the status quo.
