I have background experience with teachers, their unions, school boards, and school administrators for over three decades. The San Francisco BOE is an embarrassment. They’ve doubled down on being woke and pushing an agenda that affects 56k students (most of whom are at risk of falling behind) because progressive politics are taking precedent over actually helping the kids. Case in point:

- they spent countless board meetings pushing school renaming initiative. Sometimes seven hours to discuss this. They used Wikipedia for their source/background for deciding if a name stays or goes. Two schools were wrong identified as needing a name change because their Wikipedia search wasn’t thorough.

- while the rest of the state schools worked on a reopening plan when a vaccine was in sight, the SFBOE continued to push the renaming effort to the point where the city attorney sued the board. The board’s next meeting was closed door session with the attorneys for the district. The tone of the bird changed quickly after that meeting and the new priority was putting a plan in place to reopen schools.

- the board spent two hours discussing whether or not to allow a new member to join the committee. Their problem with it though was a double edge sword. They wanted to bring this person on as he was gay and had children in the schools, but he was white. So they debated for hours over the problem here ultimately denying him to join a committee composed of all women who he would have brought a different viewpoint to the group.

The BOE also has three members eligible for recall and so that process is starting. The others were elected too soon and there’s a cooling off period of six months after being elected that you can start a recall campaign (which parents are getting ready for).
