Hello HN! My name is Yaroslaff Fedin, and I’m a cofounder at Archimedes Finance, where we’ve been building the new kind of learning experience that helps people improve their investment and financial literacy.

The mobile app hosts a number of bite lessons, organized into courses. The big feature is the turn based game leading the player through different financial situations and opportunities. The game presents a simulation of stock market with different financial vessels, taxes, 401k, and a tiny bit of property market. It is aimed to cultivate informed investing, following and understanding market trends, and thinking long term. One of the interesting aspects of the game, is that it’s asynchronously competitive (leaderboards are normalized to game turns). The game story is about an EvilCorp corrupting the town, that can only be stopped with the help of friends and wise financial decisions. The player needs to stay alert to prevent tragedy from happening, and their local community dissolving.

Archimedes is a wrapped web-app, built on preact. We’ve built quite a cool pipeline for 3d assets, and a small engine based on three.js that plays animated scenes. I think it’s remarkable how many different aspects of learning we’ve managed to pack into a small package. We’ve tried to make the learning free, playful and accessible, without making compromise on the content.

Hey this is super cool. Is it only on mobile?

Yes, currently it's a wrapped ios/android app. But the web app is in the making. Technically there are no limiting factors. It just helps us to concentrate on the mobile experience first. The reasoning goes that the lessons are bite sized, and really easy to consume on the go.
Really fun concept and much needed! Can’t wait to check it out!
Cool concept, lovely graphics and nice interface!
