Ask HN: Why does mobile browsers have sucky support for mobile websites?

Have you noticed that mobile browsers have poor support for mobile formatted websites? I'm currently using Android and I notice that on mobile websites you can't adjust the font size and apply text reflow. Although mobile sites look better, it is often easier to read normal sites.
