It's worth it, dude. That there are people working on the kernel who aren't terrified of the current situation is genuinely worrying.
People want to contribute code to linux because it is prestigious. Critically evaluating contributions is important. Not all contributions are good at scale.
Your reply is very unclear -- you are scared because someone doesn't want a massive patch that touches everything and adds another thing everyone has to remember?
Why is this worth it? I'm not saying it isn't, but it's reasonable for people to want very clear wins, and no alternative, for this kind of massive change which adds a little more cognitive load to everyone, forever.
Of course we got people like this!. I smoke and I’ve been a smoker for years. Most of the time I am surrounded by people who do not smoke at all. Doesn’t amaze me. I have some close friends, we hangout together international;y and vacation parties but they both have never smoked weed and I am a regular smoker and this thing doesn’t affect our friendship at all. It’s not about something being legal or illegal. If a thing is facilitating you either way it is totally okay for the other person to use it.
