This article is pure apologist non sense. The media outlets were completely in the tank for anyone that wasn't the sitting President or the party he was a part of. They went after governors who were Republican while practically knighting those who were Democrat, hell Cuomo got an Emmy out of it.
So this was never about giving the American public more of what they wanted. This was delivering the message the Democratic Party wanted. Americans never wanted unending doom and gloom. The American public kept looking for hope and the American press kept stifling it because any positive message was not allowed while someone the media despised was in the White House.
Hell you can pretty much point to every popular social media platform for similar actions. Yes Trump was bad but not everyone working for his Administration was bad but media became part of the story and worse decided to mold it.
It’s really almost dystopian at this point. For example Iowa never went into full shut down mode and held public school in person and had HS sports for most of school year. It’s neighbor Illinois went into full lockdown mode.... the media coverage was constant and consistent on how terrible things were in Iowa. (https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109011/coronavirus-covi...)
Fast forward to actual data Iowa has less infections and less fatalities per 1000 people than Illinois (almost the same Illinois slightly higher). No headlines anywhere mentioning Iowa’s approach may have been practical after all.
Another example look at data for young people 0-20 with the virus. Covid poses very little risk at all which is a great thing and we should be glad ... again no coverage.
