Another click-bait article title. "Fake commuting" would mean that people actually drive or take public transport in the morning and then immediately return back to work at home.
What the article says, is that people cannot tolerate a fully sedentary lifestyle at the same location and have to go for long walks, or even go for a drive to change environment.
Going for a walk has always been a good idea.
All my life commuting involved either being stuck in gridlocked traffic; or being crammed onto packed trains for hours every day.
Commute - work - Commute - sleep - repeat.
When you commute you would rather stay at work late; than face the journey home.
When you commute you would rather leave early than be stuck in traffic or stand on the train.
That was commuting; it was a life sapping experience; the only chance at life was on your days off.
If you are nostalgic for that; I doubt you ever really did it.
