I am of the firm belief that the treatment Mr Stallman has been subjected to is appalling.

It's a measure of how secure a position these people who have done this to him believe themselves to be in, that they have been so public in their despicable behaviour.

That Stallman is being called 'transphobic' for writing about gender neutral pronouns is so absurdly knuckle-headed it's funny. You know what transphobic people do? Kick trans people out of homes, deny them jobs, deny them medical help, call them slurs online. Do you know what people who aren't transphobic do? Have a good-faith discussion about how more people can use gender neutral pronouns in multiple languages.

After seeing this I am convinced that online progressivism is too dangerous of a game to play. No matter what you do, if you're a straight white man, some crazy person will find a way to twist what you said in good faith into being X-phobic or X-ist because they don't like something else you said. And then other crazy people will dogpile you.

Better to just avoid expressing any opinions at all under my real name. That includes contributing to open source, which becomes highly political at the drop of a hat.

How is RMS an “ableist” or “transphobic?”

I at least understand the claims of being a misogynist, but am not sure how there’s a case to even present him as anti-trans or whatever ablist means in this context.

It’s so strange to see real orgs like CreativeCommons and Mozilla signing what seems like such a vapid letter.
