Ask HN: What is the resturant interface for delivery apps like?

Hi HN,

I used GrubHub to order a pizza from a local establishment which lead to an unusual situation, and some questions about how all of this could be?

The app first informed me, I could pick up at 7:00pm, then revised that to 7:15pm. When I arrived the restaurant was closed with CHAINS ON THE DOORS. The order lingered for a few hours and I was eventually charged for the alleged pizza.

The money isn't important to me... My question is-- how are orders from delivery apps communicated to the restaurants themselves?

Is it possible, or reasonable that a closed restaurant supposedly took an order from GH, and completed the transaction?

It seems as if GH fabricated the status updates from the restaurant and even the order completion.
