Everything from China needs to be boycotted. Chinese celebrities is like being propped up by the Chinese government to spread propaganda whereas the majority of the people languish in poverty
The article describes how China is using forced labour from 're-education' camps in order to harvest the cotton. Is there anything more disgusting than this statement, which the Chinese tacitly agree is true?
I completely agree. You'd think that we as a species would have left slavery in a less civilized time... But I guess when money is involved, people find a way to put their morals on hold.
For most of the 20th & 21st century, the west has consistently shown that it does not give fuck where it's cotton comes from, and that it certainly doesn't give a fuck about muslims in other countries, as along as they are slaughtered periodically.
as such, it would be good to pause and contemplate why our governments and media suddenly have a hard on for the well being of an obscure minority, previously unknown, unheard of and indeed unmentioned anywhere in the last several decades.
if you can consider these thing and reach the conclusion that the modern concerns over cotton & uyghurs is sincere, then more power to you. sadly i have much less faith in the earnest benevolence of our governments.
As someone that has family members in Xinjiang with a small cotton plantation, and has actually been to Korla, you could say this is a really interesting subject...
