Possibly as simple as they are removing Bot accounts?

Especially given the political nature of the channel, it's far more likely it's just about removing bots and spammers than a nefarious conspiracy. Besides, I'm surprised anyone cares about YouTube likes and dislikes, especially as a real measure of popularity.

How is that manipulation? It also goes the other way, if you try to manipulate view counts with bot accounts for upvotes those votes will get deleted.
