Ask HN: Why is Apple's Messages' sync so messed up?

5 points by aerosmile ↗ HN
When I send a message on my iPhone and then look at the Messages app on my laptop, I usually see no updates for quite a while. This real-time push behavior has been around in Messenger, Whatsapp and other messaging apps for so long that I am just shocked that Apple is still struggling with it. And don't even get me started on using the search function. Is there something that makes this sync so much more difficult than in other apps?

Are you on Big Sur?
Catalina 10.15.7
Okay. Since Big Sur the Messages app got an upgrade. It’s a lot better now. I personally haven’t seen sync issues.
Also as part of that "upgrade": we lost the native app and got a Catalyst version that's slower, uses more memory, can't delete multiple threads at once, is devoid of basically all keyboard shortcuts/navigation, and requires 5 infuriating clicks to reply to a message from the notification balloon.
