Ask HN: Getting into Game Development

I am interested in game development and play around with Unity in my freetime. I am already working fulltime as a devops lead engineer, so I have experience in software dev and I'm not looking to switch careers, but that being said I feel like the next level for me with game development would be to find a company that I could work/volunteer for part time to improve my skills. Does anyone know of good resources out there for finding projects looking for game developers? (unpaid is fine, even preferable).

I looked around on indeed and didn't find anything like this, it was either internships for college students or it was looking for larger time commitments
