How to Visualize Photons

Mathematical representations of the atom via quantum mechanics can only describe the photon quantitatively: that is, they are only schematizations of what’s happening.

Physically speaking, it’s much more useful to think of a photon as an action rather than as a surface-bound object, like a table or chair. See animation here:
