The fact that a private company has been so successful so far at making this a viable commercial product is very new. Science that never goes anywhere beyond publication in one of those Elsevier-owned journals not very interesting to me because there's not much you can actually do with it.
Yes, it will be many years before Neuralink's devices are available to me. But this is definitely a step closer than something you can only dream about when you read one of those stuffy academic journals.
