Ask HN: What virtual phone service do u use?

Hi,

Is there a virtual phone service from which I can buy a phone number? If so what do u recommend?

I simply want a number that I can use for WhatsApp texts. I don't need it for making calls or SMS (except in the event of WhatsApp number verification) — nor do I need a data plan.

I have looked into several eSIM providers and all they seem todo is bundle services that I have no interest in.

What do u guys suggest I look in to?

honestly, just use mintmobile.com its $15/mo for 4gb of data.

Tossable Digits is an option. They state "As of July 2018, we have tested and you can use our Virtual Numbers to verify WhatsApp and Viber accounts using the "Call Me" method. The SMS option does work with a US Short Code as well. You may need to wait 60-120 seconds after you try to send an SMS verification code in order to have the Call Me option begin."

Not sure it still works, but it is an option. $3.49/month for the number with unlimited SMS and Voicemail, plus SMS Short Code support.
