I wonder if that pop open 8P8C/RJ45 Ethernet jack is a custom design, or something one can buy from a major interconnect manufacturer?

I have to say it's nice to see a hardware 1000baseT port on a laptop. Last time I saw one of these pop open ports, I think it was one of these...

I'm against laptops with physically moving ethernet jacks.

Moving parts are often the first to fail leading to unhappy users and warranty headaches.

I also enjoy dongle adapters because I have complete control over the chipset being used. (And can avoid Realtek entirely...)

I’ve seen something similar on a MacBook port extender (a search suggests it was the ‘ HyperDrive Net 6 in 2’), so I’m guessing there’s an oem that makes them.
I really, really like the idea of open hardware & the Librem projects but I don't think I'd order another device from them until production is fully scaled up.

Ordered the Librem 5 back in August 2019 (so ~1¾ years ago) for £500/$700 and still waiting to hear when my unit will get shipped.

I still really like the ethos & support the goals and I'm sure I'll use the phone when I get it, but in my head the cost is basically a charity donation at the moment, unfortunately.

You are a better man than me. I would have charged back just before the credit cards limit on disputes (I think it’s 120 days for Amex).

Ive been looking at a new laptop to upgrade my x200s.

After reading about their supply chain issues and awful support (even for the hinge on the Librem 13) I’ve nixxed them, despite my beliefs MOST aligning with their ethos.

Looking at System 76 Lemur pro or maybe an ThinkPad x13 amd. Though Lenovo is basically antithetical to my ethos, the eye build quality is crazy good.

Maybe a MacBook Air M1 but I’d like to play a game or two here or there (nothing crazy, like KSP or something during lunch).

I’m kinda interested in the 11th gen intel procs. But a lot of manufacturers are moving to soldered ram (name Dell).

Starlabs (https://starlabs.systems/) is coming out with a new laptop soon and it seems promising. Apparently they did excellent job with the trackpad for Mk IV and the trackpad on the Mk V looks bigger. You get open firmware if you're into that thing too.

Although fair warning I've never bought anything from them.
