Is the upvote button in the wrong place?

New to HN here. Reading for a long time but just recently created an account. Also recently I started collapsing the first comment to see if anyone else decided to add something instead of replying to the first one. However I find myself almost always upvoting the comment instead of collapsing it.

Am I the only one who finds the upvote button misplaced and expects that arrow to collapse the comment?
