Where does it say that?
Are you possibly overlooking that the page is served from the Google cache?

If you see the direct link to the original story (at the top amongst the French text) trying to visit that results in the story not being found on Arstechnica which suggests that they did pull it (but I haven't done an exhaustive search in case it's simply moved)

This is a youtube video on the same topic. Inventor of this device tipped this youtuber off, and so the youtuber looks to confirm the reasoning behind the device. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrDEtSlqJC4 Long story short, McDonalds created a monopoly for the icecream machine company, and then they abused it. This device comes into play, then McDonalds tells Franchisees not to use it.
To save everyone the click, yes the "Youtuber" == Johnny Harris
I’m not sure this was retracted. The amp links still work, and the original article on wired is still up.
There's a thread on Ars' forums addressing the issue.

Since the sub-forum requires an account, here's the relevant quote from the editing staff:

> There was a misunderstanding over this story being eligible for syndication from Wired, so we have taken it down at their request. You can read the story over on Wired.

> Wired changed the rules on us after we syndicated that story.

The link to the story from Wired: https://www.wired.com/story/they-hacked-mcdonalds-ice-cream-...

Ah, thank you very much for that. I only read the first page because that's what's available on gcache, but it did ring some similarity with the Wired article.

I should have seen it coming. But it's the first time I'm hearing about "syndication". Very interesting.

Thank you very much.

Some eager SJWs, I'll give them that
