It's actually really good now. It used to be the epitome of FOSS "jank", but is as polished as any commercial offering in that space... well, that isn't hard when Sibelius is the market leader :) (incidentally, watch tantakrul's video on sibelius, it's hilarious)
I just finished digitising my late grandfather's 1600+ pages of sheet music, and while I did it all in Sibelius (with the help of some awesome upwork talent), I regretted not having gone with MuseScore, it's it's just easier and cleaner in every way. But I was already 300 pages into the project when I realised museScore would've been the better candidate, and I didn't want the hassle of having two different formats to deal with.

All I see is unwanted network connectivity and paid content. The notation experience is as user unfriendly as it has always been.
On the other hand, audacity hasn't achieved much either in the last few years so maybe it's a good fit?
