We've sunken so low you cannot even cleanly mention that wage gap is a myth and had always been a myth. You definitely cant mention the wage gap was taught to most children, erroneously, by public educators.

In this case I'm hearing the catalyst is some drama around a list of client names that are funny.

Is that at all controversial? That sounds timid. I prefer a rougher, more humor filled life, and I suppose the only way to do that is be vigilant when hiring.
