Anything to eat into Walmart and Amazons sales. I don't see Dollar General's expansion as a bad thing in itself.
I also don't think it's a full reflection on the middle class gap. Not everyone is gullible enough to shop at Target when we all know it's fancy Walmart.
They're not eating into Walmart or Amazon sales, they're killing off the mom and pop grocery and convenience stores. The places people were already going to instead of making the trip to Walmart or waiting for Amazon to deliver.
Dollar General's business model is to service areas that bigger stores won't. By definition, then, since there are many more small towns than large towns in USA, Dollar General must open 10x more stores than Walmart...
