if your job requires "soft skills" like ass kissing, saying yes, "providing tough feedback" to the minions when the overlord is displeased, and your last 6 figure bonus was because of some form of Hawaiian shirt day. Then yes you need to be in the office for that.
But if your job comes from a queue and a comment or message can clarify your task then how actually "engaged" do you need to be.
I'm always surprised when people make statements like this, where the information-asymmetry is not in there favor and the game theory is not in there favor.
Consider the options:
[prefers office, is engaged]
[prefers office, not engaged]
[prefers home, is engaged]
[prefers home, not engaged]
People who prefer the office won't care about his statement because it doesn't effect them. People who prefer home but are not engaged won't care, because they're not engaged. The only people who will care about his statement are those who prefer home and know that they are engaged. Those people now think he's an idiot because they know he's wrong and is publicly making a fool of himself.
It's like when a jealous teen calls out their boyfriend/girlfriend for cheating on them. They're hoping their bluff will reveal some information, but all it does is expose themselves as having a jealousy problem. I'm embarrassed for him.
I mean from a logical sense they aren't wrong; the person who defines their entire well-being by the entity which signs their paycheck would probably be the one who want to go back and show off their devotion. Granted they'll also burn out at 29 in a mental breakdown so dramatic as to make the local news, but I guess that's whats expected now of the modern model employee

Literally did not have to read any further than this.

I can't believe they ran such a puff piece.
