More sex-shaming, sex-negativity, puritanical fetishization of sex as a taboo. American media culture is so fixed on hypersexualized exploitation but the culture itself wags its finger at sexuality and actual sex as dirty and shameful while still having hookup culture. In other countries, sex, sexuality, sexiness, and nudity are no big deal and sometimes celebrated as part of being human. It seems like eBay is regressing in the direction of "conservative family values" imposed on everyone, like it would be with a Big Mother internet porn filter. Interestingly, Hollywood movies are gradually becoming more and more sanitized by Chinese censors so that they sell in that market.
But why? I'm sure Ebay knows the banned products will not disappear and just be sold somewhere else. And if the alternatives don't exist yet they will soon; just ask Tumblr.
