> Since Monday, more than 2,000 rockets have been fired by Hamas and Islamic Jihad — both groups designated as terror organizations by the United States — from Gaza in addition to unmanned attack drones and anti-tank missiles. Three missiles were also fired from Lebanon on Thursday.
> Nine people in Israel have been killed, according to the Magen David Adom emergency service, including a 5-year-old, Ido Avigal, who was killed Wednesday in Sderot, a small town on the Gaza border that has been regularly attacked by rockets for years.
Context: Israel has seized East Jerusalem and has been building illegal settlements for decades in the West Bank, contrary to international law, and the current regime in that area has been recently recognised as full-fledged apartheid. [1]
Meanwhile, Gaza is an open air prison with a million people trapped inside, under the strictest embargo. Since Israel controls its borders, air space and maritime space, it is still considered as an occupied territory.
In other words, Jews in Israel are "illegal" and "apartheid", so 2,000 rockets fired at them by terrorist groups are justified.
You pretend to care about "human rights", but what you're actually doing is demonizing 7 million Jews living in Israel, to justify genocidal violence against them.
No, illegal settlements outside the proper borders of Israel are illegal, and the situation they create there is one of apartheid. What's hard to understand about this?
The building was destroyed after providing notice to the occupants, allowing the AP staff to take their computers and leave. So it was not an attempt to silence reporting in the region, as the article claims.
That's not a very sound line of reasoning... What has having ones computer got to do with not being silenced by your office being leveled in an airstrike?
But then I was searching around and found this video (and others) where people were standing with cameras and such as if they knew it was going to be destroyed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAEoOZ_Oxsw
Thanks for posting the youtube link. Very interesting to me how precise the targeting is... I guess rocket/bombing tech has gotten super good since I was a kid eh?
I've recently learned that the Fatah (Mamoud Abbas being the palestinian elected leader) and the Hamas are rivals and there is violence between the two camps. Iran also have a lot of influence with those affairs.
When you have insurgents who hide into the population, it becomes quite problematic. At some point, Israel might want to make palestinians understand that as long as they consent to be human shields, and as long as they agree with people launching rockets from civilian places, it won't prevent them to bomb civilian buildings where terrorists hide.
Israel wants Palestinians to not tolerate rocket attacks. As long as the Hamas aims rockets towards citizen, it's hard to argue that Israel shouldn't counter attack when the Hamas is using human shields.
They made that mess for themselves. If they acted reasonably decades ago, in the Oslo peace deal, and afterwards, Some solution could have been found for 99% of the issues(given enough pressure from the world, because some parts of the Israeli public did resist the peace process ), and we all could just live peacefully in the region.
But in reality, either they are motivated by Islam, and by wishful thinking that Israel won't exist in the region - or they make some really dumb decisions, like choosing Hamas, an religiously extreme, terrorist organization, in their democratic elections as their representative in the peace process.
It's just sad. So much blood fear and destruction, and for what ? for nothing.
I'm not criticizing palestinians, but they're being brainwashed by extremism and are refusing to negotiate. They're politically disorganized and can't really agree on what to do.
Not to mention Egypt is refusing to help them.
It's an impossible situation. Israel will never be able to trust Palestinians because of terrorist attacks, and Palestinians will always end up impoverished and encircled. Meanwhile, Iran sends weapons.
Hamas is a terrorist group according to the whole world. Insurgents make it very difficult for Israel or palestinians to move forward so there can be trustm since those insurgents hide into the population.
I totally understand the suffering of peaceful palestinians, and I'm against politicians like Netanyahu, but if you look at the bigger picture, peace and trust are not possible right now.
Israel will keep bullying the gaza strip as long as there are rocket attacks. Israel has always been in a position of strength, and they have little reason to change if Israelis get killed. Not to mention Israel is south of Syria and is surrounded by Muslim countries.
> Hamas is a terrorist group according to the whole world
Wrong, not the whole world (not that it matters anyway). If some puppets of the Zionist state declare freedom fighters as a "terrorist organization" then it must be so, right? Leave these arguments to the fools.
The fact of the matter is that the Zionist state was founded on the homes and lives and blood of the Palestenian people, given to the Zionists by the Brits. Quite ironic given what the Nazis did only a few years prior in WWII.
> Israel has always been in a position of strength
Only due to the support of the US and the UK.
> Not to mention Israel is south of Syria and is surrounded by Muslim countries.
Yep, they wouldn't last a day without the protection of the colonizing West.
According to Al Jazeera (who's offices were also in that tower), there were sixty residential apartments in there. Sixty families at least have lost their home, possessions and memories.
Hundreds of Israeli families lost their homes, hit by over 2,000 Hamas rockets deliberately targeting civilians. Israel warned this building's residents so none got hurt by airstrike. However, just two hours ago an Israeli building was hit by Hamas rockets and a man was killed:
Im confused at the nerve of the comparison everytime.
What hope do you have when you had the misfortune to be born and live in gaza ?
Literally what ELSE do you have to do when you are basically jailed in 5km^2, other than building and sending rockets to the entity jailing you. Of course they are going to rebel. Its literally the plot of the movie "the maze". What else would you do ?
Mexicans in Juarez also have a pretty bad life compared to Americans in San Diego. If Mexican in Juarez fire 2,000 rockets at San Diego killing and wounding dozens of Americans, the US should just let it slide because those Mexicans are poor and unhappy?
Sorry, you are making no sense. Israel can't and won't try to prevent Gazans from travelling to Europe. It only controls its own borders, just like US vs Mexico.
Also Israel would be pretty happy if Gazans could leave and go to Europe, or anywhere else really. That's one key point the "open air prison" claim breaks down completely.
>Israel has imposed movement restrictions on the Gaza Strip since the early 1990’s. Restrictions intensified in June 2007, following the takeover of that part of the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) by Hamas, when Israel imposed a land, sea and air blockade on Gaza, citing security concerns. Despite relaxation of some blockade-related restrictions in recent years, 1.8 million Palestinians in Gaza remain ‘locked in’, denied free access to the remainder of the territory and the outside world.
By the way, when I traveled to Israel in 2010 I tried to visit the Gaza strip, boy little did I know. It's literally impossible to go there unless you're there for humanitarian reasons.
Israel doesn't have to allow Gaza residents into its own borders, no more than the US has to allow Mexican residents, especially since there is ongoing violent conflict between Israel and Gaza.
Israel doesn't control movement between Gaza and Egypt. If Egypt is blocking movement at the Gaza-Egypt border, that has nothing to do with Israel.
Plus its not because they dont "have" to do it that they are not going to deal with the consequences of effectively creating this situation... we are talking about basic hope and freedom and you are talking about "rules" like there is some sort of moral high ground to be had.
just screw the world and all the fake "human rights" voices all over it, i'll break it to you in a simple way you stupid people out there, imagine you were living in your house which you call home because it was your father's land and house and grandfather's and grand grand father's for centuries, and then suddenly due to some political shit and some shitty word order, your house or "part" of your house was given as a gift to some entity or someone who claims that it's his house not yours, and they have the right to occupy it, you tried to push back but you were overpowered by that shit and his justice league, the rest of the story is known, so please stop accusing people of terrorism, if it is me i'll not stop killing and destroying the intruder untill he is completely wiped out from the planet.

Thanks I've been looking for this
I watched the BBC live reports where it collapsed https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-middle-east-57114168

So yeah I didn't know IDF gave early warning

So far 10 Israeli people were killed in these rocket attacks over the past week alone.

Someone born in gaza the past 30 years or more is literally blocked BY ISRAEL to go anywhere else in the world.
With no hope, literally anyone would start rebelling and building rockets.
The US doesn't "block" Mexicans. It just maintains its own borders.
Similarly, Israel doesn't "block" Gazans. It just maintains its own borders.
FYI Gaza has a border with Egypt, too, and Israel can't and won't try to "block" Gazans from crossing into Egypt.
Are Gazans? Yes, almost exclusively.
And if you're saying they can travel via Egypt you are disingenuous at best, and flat our lying at worst.
Also Israel would be pretty happy if Gazans could leave and go to Europe, or anywhere else really. That's one key point the "open air prison" claim breaks down completely.
This is from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) after a 10 seconds Google search.

No one cares about rules when they are starving
Let us not forget all of the Palestinians displaced (and killed) due to the state sponsored settlements...
