An unprovoked attack on an elderly Asian or person of any ethnicity is a crime, but in general it is not a Federal crime. Often these attacks are committed by someone who is mentally ill and/or has a criminal record, so what is needed to reduce anti-Asian hate crimes is a reversal of lax law enforcement policies in the wake of George Floyd's death.
I couldn't have said it better myself. Completely agree that a lot of these people doing these heinous acts are mental but the media is pushing another narrative, pretty silly and nefarious. I'm as angered as anyone from the Asian community when I see a cowardly attack on the elderly, but the media is making it seem like it's all pre-medidated racism. But take a walk in Harlem or the Bronx and nobody attacking Asians, yet it's a pandemic.
