Ask HN: Is M1 ready for back end dev work?

Hey HN,

I am switching jobs in 3 months and want to know if M1 is usable by now.

I will be working with Go, TS, Docker, Postgres and AWS mostly.

What are your experiences?

No issues with Go cross-compilation or tooling in general on Apple Silicon.
I’m not really a backend dev, I do iOS but have to run and work on some docker services from time to time. I had quite a lot of issues early on, not with docker itself but with third party images. I’ve been running everything on a remote ubuntu box for the interim but plan to check out the situation again in a few months.
I don’t think so. I can’t emulate my infrastructure environment anymore because Virtualbox doesn’t work on M1. Docker itself is not enough. So here I am running a powerful machine but running VMs on the cloud (and paying extra for it)... oh the irony.
