I worry about the same thing. BTW, I really appreciate Bruce’s articles because I spend my time either creating things or being with friends and family, and I neglect spending much time thinking about security issues, politics, etc. I tend to find people who I trust who are subject matter experts, read what they have to say and fairly much ignore everything else.
I no longer work in the field of Deep Learning, so I am not sure if there is much research in building models that detect auto generated content, sort of the discriminator part of GANs.
