It’s just content marketing. It’s just as “fellow kids” as companies paying bands to make a song for their product in the 80s to get youth interest.
It's some kind of cryptocurrency thing, so I wouldn't exactly classify it as a "legit company".

Still pretty funny though.

Why can’t a business in the cryptocurrency space be classified a legit company?

Gitcoin is doing amazing work to support creators in the Ethereum and wider crypto ecosystem.

Same reason a business in the "underwear for imaginary pets" space can't be classified as a legit company. It's absurd and surreal.
It’s just a social media company. I wouldn’t exactly classify Facebook as a “legit company”.
The actual job posting is for a combination content creator, community manager, Discord moderator, developer relations representative, and social media manager:

> Creating content around events and activities happening in the Gitcoin community

> Memeing Gitcoin’s community governance process into existence

> Moderating Discord and other channels where the Gitcoin community lives

> Finding new and novel ways to improve the Discord experience

> Helping new community members navigate the ecosystem and go from 0-1 in web3

> Moderating and posting updates on Gitcoin’s Twitter

Memes are mentioned, but this person won't be kicking back and thinking about memes all day. That's a lot of hats for one person to wear.

This ad might be illegal because you can't just discriminate against people like that. It disqualifies pretty much anyone who isn't a cis white male.

(please consider this my application, thank you for your time and attention. QED.)

I honestly can't see where you think it's discriminating against anyone in either the tweet or the actual posting.
Apparently women can't meme /s. I can't wait to read their medium post detailing this problem lol

Edit: motohagiography, your post has been flagged, so I can't reply to you, but if you want to elaborate on your post, please feel free to use this as a jumping-off point.

You've made a big claim, I'm hoping you can back it up.

Challenge accepted!

The ur-meme and ur-shitpost, which this ad is specifically looking for writers of, is that progressives cannot meme because they are humourless scolds and mirthless ideologues. This foundational meme about who does it well is propagated in forums that are defined by their problematic views.

The irony that this job ad would advantage people who not only traditionally hold this problematic view, but necessarily had experience exercising it via shitposting and doing it well, would seem to exclude people who hold progressive and radical values - yet calling it out is simultaneously offensive. The resulting paradox is what many people call humour. An actual job writing memes and quality shitposts effectively (if not explicitly) excludes the political left.

An example shitpost (which is the topic of the original post) addressing this specific original meme-about-memes was very much on topic, and amusing enough to share.

lol "legit company". I think the post proves otherwise.
Gitcoin is doing great work supporting the eth ecosystem and their whole quadratic allocation model is very innovative.
Really confusing statement to parse. Would have been easier to read as

"A six figure job making memes at a legit company"

I originally read the statement as a six-figure meme, which is making a job.

I mean, McMillen was the pioneer here, surely.
Was not expecting to see iq in the comments there.

edit: by "iq" I was referring to legendary graphics programmer Inigo Quillez, not intelligence quotient.

The single most important person for a cryptocurrency is the meme maker. Cryptocurrencies are literally “memed” into existence unlike fiat which rides the back of military/police power.
Seems like the "code ninja" of the content marketing world.
