I find it somewhat terrifying that a politician with half a brain couldn’t work these pretty obvious consequences out for themselves.

Even at the most basic level of knowing covid kills 1-2% of people who get it means 1-2% of your population dies - even if you magically don’t overwhelm the health service and massively increase that percentage.

It’s disturbing how fast they went for the “sacrifice a few for the many” option even when it made little sense.
Not only that but people kept saying they delayed lockdown 'for the economy' - but as it says (and as is OBVIOUS) the later you lock down, the more cases there are (exponentially so), so the longer you have to stay locked down, and destroy the economy way more, and have loads of people die.
