People are being conditioned to think that their freedom is selfish.

This reads like a long winded version of calling people sheeple.

Thinking by yourself is not enough. We have plenty of builtin bias, we carry a lot of (old and present) cultural baggage that condition what meaning we give to what we see

Critical and system thinking (there are plenty of great books on both) are useful tools there.
