It is data massaged to create a synthetic representation with a "color" chosen by scientists who then spread around the word its a photo. Even the president of the Max Planck institute one of the most respected German institutions called it a picture. Did you notice it was made with radio telescopes ? Do they take pictures ?
If I take radar measurements of big asteroid coming close to earth and you represent its elevations and valleys
do you call it a picture ?
They even choose the colors....
I plan to download the data make a new "picture"
with a bright green orange and wait for them to tell me
why the color in my "picture" is incorrect...
I watched it recently and enjoyed seeing the young people involved enjoying the excitement of being part of something big. I also enjoyed the Japanese Samurai and Carribean pirate documentaries, I hope Netflix makes a few more.
That’s what really struck me too - just seeing how excited they were. It made me think we really need to protect and encourage more people to love science that much!
