If the residents were as qualified as other software engineers they would have joined Google through regular channels and not through the engineering residency program.

According to Google's 2020 diversity report [1], 51.7% of its workers were white, down from 54.4% in 2019. Since the US is 61.5% white [2], that means whites are under-represented at Google, and increasingly so. How can one then argue they are favored? Why did Reuters not do even the bare minimum in examining these claims critically?
