This is something that I've been wanting for quite a while, and now I've finally got a working prototype. It's a social networking app where every post is encrypted from end to end, aiming for the best things about Facebook (convenience) + the best of the encrypted messengers like Signal and Element/Matrix.
I originally started on this because I wanted a more secure way to share photos of my kid with our extended family. But it works just as well for keeping in touch with friends or colleagues or neighbors or whoever.
Over the past few years I've been encouraged to read others on this site who feel the same way that I do about the current crop of social networks. How the tracking and data collection is creepy, and the algorithm that prioritizes your friends' posts for you is harmful as it maximizes for "engagement" and outrage rather than user happiness. You want something better, with no ads and no tracking? Well here it is.
