Having not read the book, the first question that comes to mind is whether John Gray is referring to a house cat or a stray cat in his writings. The house cat is an animal in a highly artificial environment where most of the daily struggles have been removed. Any comparisons to the human condition would be suspect. A stray cat would likely live a life of territorial battles, disease, injury, and hunger, and would be a much different creature than a house cat.
I suppose we could also argue that the modern human lives in a highly artificial environment where most daily struggles are social constructs. I haven’t read the book either though, but it seems really interesting.
